The CDA has started working with PAP since June 1998,

By 31 of October has transferred a total amount of LE. 353,500 to the CDA as a loan fund capital.

PAP also supported the refurbishment of the work-space of the loan management unit inside the CDA in order to ensure adequate working environment and space for the CDA staff and the clients.

Meanwhile, PAP provided the CDA with a telephone line, computer with access to internet, and needed furniture to carryout the work.

Until the end of October 2001, the CDA has disbursed 747 loans valued at

LE. 1,508,995.

By end October 2001, the total amounts repaid back to the CDA is about

LE. 1,254,183, the overall repayment rate in October 2001 was 98%.

 CDA Capacity Building:

In order to build the CDA capacity to address other community needs, PAP linked the CDA with the “NEW HORIZON” program that is to enhance the community awareness towards crucial issues such as hygiene education, the environment and women and children basic needs.

iii.               The Library

Omrania Gharbia CDA

Under the patronage of Her Excellency Doctor Amina El Ghindy Ministry of Insurance and Social Affairs, and His Excellency Mr. Mahmoud Abou El Leil, Giza Governor jointly with His Excellency the Italian Ambassador Mr. Mario Sica,

Is happy to welcome you to the newly open library

in the premises of the CDA

Omrania Gharbia Library has been established in the framework of PAP as part of the supporting activities. Enhancing the quality of education of the village inhabitants is part of the strategy of the program itself. Omraniya Gharbia, considered to be one of the poorest areas in Giza Governorate, was in fact lacking basic cultural services necessary to support the education process and allow access to knowledge and information.

PAP provided financial and technical assistance to the CDA, which in turn host the library and committed to run and manage it. PAP has furnished the library with about 4800 books, covering a wide range of subject from history, to economics, to philosophy, religion, languages, and sciences etc. Furthermore the library has been equipped with a computer, internet access open to library users, and who ever will be willing to benefit from the CDA new service. As soon as the library started working, people begun to use it, which shows that a very important need is being addressed.
